Overview
About the HUUM HIVE
The HUUM HIVE electric sauna heater is built for large rooms. Its round steel frame holds about 250 kg of stones, and that mass spreads heat evenly and turns a ladle of water into deep, lasting steam. Since 2025, every HIVE has an air tunnel around the elements that speeds up heating and helps the elements last.
HUUM rates the 12 kW for 12–18 m³ (424–636 cu ft), the 15 kW for 15–23 m³ (530–813 cu ft) and the 18 kW for 18–28 m³ (636–989 cu ft). That suits spacious family saunas, cottages and shared rooms in gyms or condo buildings. It stands 75 cm tall and 56 cm across, and it can be partly sunk into a bench as long as at least 350 mm stays above the surface.
Plan the electrical early. Each HIVE is wired as two separate 240 V circuits, and it needs both a HUUM UKU control and the UKU Extension Box, sold separately, to handle the higher load. A licensed electrician should size both circuits to HUUM's manual.

What you need to install it
- Wired as two separate 240 V circuits: 2 × 30 A with 10 AWG (12 kW) or 2 × 50 A with 6 AWG (15 and 18 kW), per HUUM's US manual; your electrician confirms.
- Keep at least 120–180 mm (4.7–7.1 in) at the sides, by model, and 1,200 mm (47.3 in) above to the ceiling.
Control: Needs a HUUM UKU control plus the UKU Extension Box (both sold separately).
Stones: Holds about 250 kg (551 lb) of 5–10 cm stones. Sold separately.
Wiring and permits
Electric sauna heaters are hard-wired to a dedicated breaker sized in the manual. Have a licensed electrician do the work and get the permit or inspection your province requires. In Ontario that means a Licensed Electrical Contractor, or you in your own home after filing an ESA notification; ask for the ESA Certificate of Acceptance, as your insurer may want it.

HUUM HIVE questions
Why do I need the UKU Extension Box?
HUUM rates the UKU control for heaters up to 11 kW on its own. The HIVE's 12–18 kW load runs on two circuits, and HUUM requires the Extension Box to switch them.
How many stones does it take?
About 250 kg of 5–10 cm stones. HUUM's manual counts it in 15 kg boxes, so plan a helper for loading day.
Is the HIVE right for a typical home sauna?
Only if the room is large: the 12 kW starts at 424 cu ft (12 m³). Most home saunas under that size suit the HIVE Mini instead.
Can I use a Harvia or other-brand control?
No. HUUM heaters work only with HUUM's UKU controls; each brand calibrates its temperature sensor differently and uses different wiring.
