About guards & railings

A sauna heater's casing and stones get hot enough to burn, and in a small room people pass within easy reach. A railing or guard gives everyone a clear boundary around the heater. HUUM strongly recommends one in every sauna, whether its own or one your builder designs.

Railings are made for specific heaters, so match the model and size. HUUM offers light-wood railings for the CLIFF, STEEL, DROP, HIVE and HIVE Mini. Harvia sizes its railings to each heater: birch rings for the Cilindro, black-painted birch for the Spirit, aspen in three sizes for the Virta and Virta Combi, and stackable 780 and 850 mm rings for the Legend family. Homecraft makes a guard for its Revive.

Most railings fix to the heater with stainless steel hardware. Wood is the usual material because it stays comfortable to the touch, and Harvia notes its birch surfaces are safe to touch. Follow the maker's instructions when fitting, and keep the heater's required clearances; a railing doesn't change the safety distances in the manual unless the manufacturer says so.

Not sure which size fits? Add your heater's model and kW to your order request, and we'll confirm the right railing before you're invoiced.

Guards & railings questions

Is a safety railing required?

It isn't built into most heaters, but it's a sensible addition anywhere people move close to the heater. HUUM strongly recommends one in every sauna.

Which Harvia railing fits my Virta?

The HL3S fits the Virta 8 and 9 kW, the HL3M fits the Virta 10.5 kW and Virta Combi 9 kW, and the HL3L fits the Virta Combi 10.5 kW.

Can I stack Harvia Legend railings?

Yes. Harvia designs the Legend railings to stack, one above another, for a taller guard.

Does a railing let me reduce clearances?

No. Railings protect people from the heater; they don't change the heater's required distances to walls, benches or ceilings unless the manufacturer states otherwise.
