A-frame saunas

Why choose an A-frame sauna

“A-frame” usually means a Nordic A-frame: a steep gable roof over short walls, with a recessed glass front. True triangle A-frames, with the roof running to the ground, are less common. Choose from two footprints, about 6 × 9 ft or 7 × 9 ft.

A good fit for bigger groups and yards with room for a tall roofline. Check your height limit before you fall for the look.

  • Steep roof sheds snow

The steep pitch lets snow slide off, so there’s little to clear after a storm.

  • Seats six to eight

Both sizes typically seat six to eight people, depending on the bench layout. We confirm the seating for your model in the quote.

  • Recessed glass front

The glass front sits back under the roof, for a view out from the bench.

  • A roofline that stands out

The tall gable gives the A-frame the most striking silhouette of the five styles.

  • Electric or wood

Either heater type works. A tall roof can add air volume, so size the heater for the real interior.

Delivery and site prep

The sauna is the easy part. A level base, a clear route and power or a chimney plan make delivery day go smoothly.

How it arrives

  • Lead time: 4–6 weeks from your deposit
  • Delivery: quoted to your address, anywhere in Canada
  • Assembly: quoted with delivery, for your site
  • We confirm the base, delivery method and access your model needs with your quote
  • A 40% deposit starts production, and the balance is due before delivery

Get your site ready

  • Height: zoning limits how tall a backyard structure can be. In Toronto’s residential zones, for example, the limit is 4.0 m, or 2.5 m within 1.8 m of the house. We confirm the exterior height of your model with your quote.
  • Space: the footprint you choose, plus room to walk around it for maintenance
  • A level, well-drained base: compacted gravel with pavers, a concrete pad, or a deck built to carry the sauna’s weight
  • A clear delivery route, with no low wires or branches in the way
  • Electric heat: a dedicated 240 V circuit, connected by a licensed electrician with any permit your province requires (an ESA notification in Ontario)
  • Wood heat: a chimney kit sized to the stove, the clearances in its manual, and a call to your insurer about a WETT inspection
  • Permits: both A-frame sizes have footprints under 10 m² (about 107 sq ft), Ontario’s building-permit threshold for a structure without plumbing; other provinces set their own rules. Zoning setbacks and height limits still apply.

Rules differ between municipalities. Our outdoor sauna site prep guide walks through permits, zoning, the base and the delivery route.

A-frame sauna questions

What is a Nordic A-frame sauna?

A sauna with a tall, steep gable roof, around 60°, over short vertical walls, with a recessed glass front. It’s what “A-frame” usually means. A true triangle A-frame, with the roof running to the ground, is less common.

Will an A-frame sauna meet my height limit?

Check before you order. Zoning limits the height of backyard structures: in Toronto’s residential zones, for example, an ancillary structure can be up to 4.0 m tall, measured from average grade, or 2.5 m if it’s within 1.8 m of the house. Other municipalities set their own limits. We confirm the exterior height of the model we quote. See our site prep guide.

How many people fit in an A-frame sauna?

Both sizes, about 6 × 9 ft and 7 × 9 ft, typically seat 6 to 8 people, depending on the bench layout. We confirm the seating for your exact model in the quote.

Why do A-frames cost more than other styles?

An A-frame’s tall, steep roof has much more roof area than a flat roof on the same footprint. It also has a large recessed glass front, and it only comes in two larger sizes. Your written quote shows exactly what’s in the price.

What’s included in the starting price?

The sauna in the size you choose and its heater. Sauna stones and a bucket and ladle are included too. Delivery and assembly are quoted to your address, anywhere in Canada, and the tax for your province is added on your invoice.
