About mounting & protection

Setting a heater partly into the bench saves space and looks built-in. Embedding flanges from HUUM and Harvia trim the bench opening in stainless steel. Each maker also sets how much of the heater must stay above the bench, such as at least 550 mm for HUUM's CLIFF and STEEL.

Clearances to combustible walls often decide the layout of a small sauna, and some accessories reduce them where the manufacturer approves it. HUUM says its reflectors halve the distance to the walls, Narvi's Kuru wall set lets that stove sit 130 mm from combustibles, and Harvia's WL450 and WL550 sheaths shrink the M3 and Pro 20 clearances. Always use the reduced figures from the manual.

Floors need protecting too. Protective beddings and installation bases lift a stove clear of a wooden floor or keep heat away from underfloor heating pipes, and floor plates catch sparks in front of a stove door. HUUM's drip tray keeps water off the floor under the DROP.

Stone cages and pipe covers wrap the flue above a wood stove in stones, hiding hot metal and adding steam surface. HUUM's air tunnel is an upgrade for HIVE heaters made before 2025. Check each product's fit note for the exact models it suits.

Can a reflector or shield let me install the heater closer to the wall?

Yes, when the manufacturer approves it for that heater. The allowed distance comes from the manual, such as HUUM's 50% reduction with its reflectors or 130 mm for the Narvi Kuru with its wall set.

Do I need a protective bedding under my stove?

If the floor is combustible, or has water-based underfloor heating below, the stove manual will usually call for a bedding or base. Tile over waterproofing may also need one; check your model.

How much of an embedded heater must stay above the bench?

Per HUUM: at least 550 mm for the CLIFF and STEEL, 375 mm for the DROP, and 350 mm for the HIVE and HIVE Mini.

Do stone cages come with stones?

Only the bundles say so. The HUUM stone cage is sold with or without 30 kg of stones, and the Harvia WL300 with or without 40 kg.
