  • Outdoor setup: The contactor box arrives pre-mounted in a weatherproof enclosure, for mounting on the outside of an outdoor or barrel sauna.

Overview

About the Homecraft Revive

The Homecraft Revive electric sauna heater is a tower built for people who like a wet, humid sauna. It holds up to about 90 kg (200 lb) of rock, so you can pour water gradually and keep the löyly coming without the rocks going cold. A free-airflow design pulls air through the rock and shields the heating elements, and the whole unit is 100% stainless steel.

Homecraft rates the 6 kW for 250–300 cu ft, the 7.5 kW for 300–370 cu ft and the 9 kW for 360–450 cu ft, which covers most home saunas. The tower is 14 × 14 in and 36 in tall, leaving wall space free for benches. Homecraft requires its Revive heater guard on every installation; it’s sold separately.

The Revive runs with a Homecraft TKE2-2 control and relay box, sold separately, in indoor or outdoor-rated versions. The TKE2-2 allows room temperatures up to 90 °C (194 °F) with a one-hour run time. The heater is hard-wired at 240 V with #8 copper on a 40 or 50 A breaker, and it needs just 3.5 in to combustibles.

What you need to install it

  • Hard-wired to a dedicated double-pole breaker (40 A for 6 and 7.5 kW, 50 A for 9 kW); your electrician confirms breaker and wire size against the manual.
  • Homecraft controls use a separate relay (contactor) box mounted outside the hot room. Choose the indoor box, or the outdoor-rated box for an outdoor sauna.
  • Keep 3.5 in (89 mm) to combustibles and 42 in (1,067 mm) above to the ceiling.
  • Homecraft requires its heater guard on every installation, fixed with the screws supplied. It’s sold separately: add the Revive guard below unless you already have one.

Control: Needs a Homecraft TKE2-2 control with its relay box (sold separately), in indoor or outdoor-rated versions.

Stones: Holds up to about 90 kg (200 lb) of rock. Sold separately.

Wiring and permits

Electric sauna heaters are hard-wired to a dedicated breaker sized in the manual. Have a licensed electrician do the work and get the permit or inspection your province requires. In Ontario that means a Licensed Electrical Contractor, or you in your own home after filing an ESA notification; ask for the ESA Certificate of Acceptance, as your insurer may want it.

Controls for the Homecraft Revive

Homecraft heaters work only with Homecraft controls. The builder above lists the right one for each size; here is every control rated for this heater.

Homecraft Revive questions

Revive or Apex Mini?

Both are Canadian-made towers for similar room sizes. The Revive is 36 in tall and holds up to about 200 lb of rock; the Apex Mini is 32 in tall with the Apex's protected element chamber.

What breaker and wire does it need?

240 V single-phase with #8 copper rated 90 °C: a 40 A breaker for the 6 and 7.5 kW and 50 A for the 9 kW, per Homecraft.

Indoor or outdoor control setup: which do I need?

Pick the indoor setup when the relay box will live in a dry, indoor space such as a basement or change room. For an outdoor sauna where the box mounts outside, choose the outdoor setup, which uses an outdoor-rated relay box.

Can I use a Harvia or HUUM control with it?

No. Homecraft heaters work only with Homecraft TKE controls; controls from other brands use different sensors and wiring.
