Overview

About the Homecraft H-Series

The Homecraft H-Series electric sauna heater is built for people who want the room hot, fast. Instead of a deep tower of rock, it uses a shallow, efficient rock bed of about 20 kg (44 lb) that lets air move freely, and Homecraft says most rooms reach temperature in about 20–30 minutes. You can still ladle water for steam whenever you want more humidity.

Homecraft's manual rates the 6 kW for 250–300 cu ft, the 7.5 kW for 300–370 cu ft and the 9 kW for 360–450 cu ft. It mounts on the wall and measures about 20 in wide, 12.5 in deep and 24 in tall, which makes it a natural fit for traditional indoor rooms and barrel saunas. Stainless inner and outer baffles spread the heat and protect the internals.

The H-Series runs with a Homecraft TKE2-2 control and relay box, sold separately, in indoor or outdoor-rated versions. It's hard-wired at 240 V with #8 copper on a 40 A (6 and 7.5 kW) or 50 A (9 kW) breaker. Keep 4 in to combustibles at the sides and 42 in above to the ceiling.

What you need to install it

  • Hard-wired to a dedicated double-pole breaker (40 A for 6 and 7.5 kW, 50 A for 9 kW); your electrician confirms breaker and wire size against the manual.
  • Homecraft controls use a separate relay (contactor) box mounted outside the hot room. Choose the indoor box, or the outdoor-rated box for an outdoor sauna.
  • Keep 4 in (102 mm) to combustibles at the sides and 42 in (1,067 mm) above to the ceiling; Homecraft lists a 78 in minimum ceiling height.

Control: Needs a Homecraft TKE2-2 control with its relay box (sold separately), in indoor or outdoor-rated versions.

Stones: Holds about 20 kg (44 lb) of rock. Sold separately.

Wiring and permits

Electric sauna heaters are hard-wired to a dedicated breaker sized in the manual. Have a licensed electrician do the work and get the permit or inspection your province requires. In Ontario that means a Licensed Electrical Contractor, or you in your own home after filing an ESA notification; ask for the ESA Certificate of Acceptance, as your insurer may want it.

Homecraft H-Series questions

Can I still make steam with a shallow rock bed?

Yes. The H-Series is designed mainly for dry heat and fast warm-up, but you can ladle water on the rocks for löyly. For heavier, longer steam, look at the Revive tower.

What size do I need?

Per Homecraft's manual: 6 kW for 250–300 cu ft, 7.5 kW for 300–370 cu ft and 9 kW for 360–450 cu ft.

Indoor or outdoor control setup: which do I need?

Pick the indoor setup when the relay box will live in a dry, indoor space such as a basement or change room. For an outdoor sauna where the box mounts outside, choose the outdoor setup, which uses an outdoor-rated relay box.

Can I use a Harvia or HUUM control with it?

No. Homecraft heaters work only with Homecraft TKE controls; controls from other brands use different sensors and wiring.
