  • Homecraft TKE2-2 Digital Sauna Control: Homecraft's standard control for its 240 V heaters up to 10 kW: a digital touchpad plus the relay contactor box that switches the heater. Choose the indoor box or the weatherproof outdoor version.
  • Homecraft TKE2-2 Wi-Fi Sauna Control: The TKE2-2 control system with Homecraft's Wi-Fi touchpad, so you can preheat and check the sauna from your phone. It includes the relay contactor box, in an indoor or weatherproof outdoor version.
  • Indoor setup: The contactor box installs indoors in a dry, protected spot, such as a basement, garage or utility room.
  • Outdoor setup: The contactor box arrives pre-mounted in a weatherproof enclosure, for mounting on the outside of an outdoor or barrel sauna.

Overview

About the Homecraft Apex Mini

The Homecraft Apex Mini electric sauna heater shrinks the Apex tower to a 14 × 14 in footprint while keeping its protected element chamber. Water you ladle is absorbed by the rock rather than splashing the elements, so the steam comes out soft and even. It's built from stainless steel in British Columbia and takes a generous load of rock; Homecraft calls for about five boxes.

Homecraft rates the 6 kW for 200–325 cu ft, the 7.5 kW for 250–370 cu ft and the 9 kW for 325–450 cu ft, which covers most home saunas. At 32 in tall, 4 in shorter than the full Apex, it suits saunas with lower bench layouts, so you can keep your feet above the top of the heater.

The Apex Mini runs with a Homecraft TKE2-2 control and relay box, sold separately, in indoor or outdoor-rated versions. It needs only 3.5 in to combustibles; with a ceiling of 78 in or lower, Homecraft requires its 20 × 20 in heat shield above the heater.

What you need to install it

  • Hard-wired to a dedicated double-pole breaker (40 A for 6 and 7.5 kW, 50 A for 9 kW); your electrician confirms breaker and wire size against the manual.
  • Homecraft controls use a separate relay (contactor) box mounted outside the hot room. Choose the indoor box, or the outdoor-rated box for an outdoor sauna.
  • Keep 3.5 in (89 mm) to combustibles and 47 in (1,194 mm) above to the ceiling; ceilings of 78 in or lower need Homecraft's heat shield.

Control: Needs a Homecraft TKE2-2 control with its relay box (sold separately), in indoor or outdoor-rated versions.

Stones: Takes about 5 boxes of 7.5–15 cm (3–6 in) igneous rock, per Homecraft (listed capacity about 80 kg / 175 lb). Sold separately.

Wiring and permits

Electric sauna heaters are hard-wired to a dedicated breaker sized in the manual. Have a licensed electrician do the work and get the permit or inspection your province requires. In Ontario that means a Licensed Electrical Contractor, or you in your own home after filing an ESA notification; ask for the ESA Certificate of Acceptance, as your insurer may want it.

Homecraft Apex Mini questions

Why choose the Apex Mini over the Revive?

Both are towers for similar rooms. The Apex Mini is shorter (32 in versus 36 in) and uses the Apex's protected element chamber; the Revive holds up to 200 lb of rock in a taller frame.

What breaker and wire does it need?

Per Homecraft's manual: 40 A for the 6 and 7.5 kW and 50 A for the 9 kW, all with #8 copper rated 90 °C, at 240 V single-phase.

Indoor or outdoor control setup: which do I need?

Pick the indoor setup when the relay box will live in a dry, indoor space such as a basement or change room. For an outdoor sauna where the box mounts outside, choose the outdoor setup, which uses an outdoor-rated relay box.

Can I use a Harvia or HUUM control with it?

No. Homecraft heaters work only with Homecraft TKE controls; controls from other brands use different sensors and wiring.
