Overview

About the Harvia Virta Combi

The Harvia Virta Combi electric sauna heater adds a steamer to Harvia's service-friendly Virta design. Alongside the main heater, a 2.1 kW evaporator turns water from a 5 L tank into soft, humid steam, and the tank refills itself from a water line. A soapstone cup holds liquid scents and a steel grate holds herb bags, so you can run a classic dry sauna one day and a gentle, fragrant one the next.

Harvia rates the 9 kW for 177–494 cu ft (5–14 m³) and the 10.5 kW for 177–635 cu ft (5–18 m³). Like the standard Virta, the elements sit apart from the stones (about 50 kg on the 9 kW and 70 kg on the 10.5 kW), and a front hatch makes servicing easy.

Plan for two trades. The heater is hard-wired at 240 V with several supply cables, and it runs only with the Harvia Xenio CX30C combi control, sold separately. The automatic refill also needs a cold-water line with a shut-off valve, so book a plumber alongside your electrician.

What you need to install it

  • Hard-wired to a dedicated double-pole breaker (45 A for 9 kW, 60 A for 10.5 kW); your electrician confirms breaker and wire size against the manual; the listing calls for three supply cables.
  • The automatic refill needs a cold-water line with a shut-off valve (Harvia specifies 150–400 kPa); plan it with a plumber.
  • Harvia's control and power unit go in a dry spot outside the hot room, never outdoors or near a shower.

Control: Needs the Harvia Xenio CX30C combi control (sold separately), which runs both heat and steam.

Stones: Holds about 50 kg (110 lb) of 5–10 cm stones, or 70 kg (154 lb) on the 10.5 kW. Sold separately.

Wiring and permits

Electric sauna heaters are hard-wired to a dedicated breaker sized in the manual. Have a licensed electrician do the work and get the permit or inspection your province requires. In Ontario that means a Licensed Electrical Contractor, or you in your own home after filing an ESA notification; ask for the ESA Certificate of Acceptance, as your insurer may want it.

Harvia Virta Combi questions

How is the Combi different from the regular Virta?

It adds a 2.1 kW steamer and a 5 L water tank, so the room can run humid and aromatic as well as dry. It also needs the combi version of Harvia's control and a water connection.

Does it need plumbing?

Yes. The tank refills automatically from a cold-water line, and Harvia specifies a shut-off valve and a supply pressure of 150–400 kPa. A plumber should make the connection.

Which control do I need?

The Harvia Xenio CX30C combi control. It sets temperature, humidity and time for both the heater and the steamer.

Can I use scents?

Yes. Liquid aromas go in the soapstone cup and herb bags on the steel grate. Use scents made for saunas.
