Overview

About the Harvia Vega Compact

The Harvia Vega Compact electric sauna heater is made for the smallest saunas. The temperature and timer controls sit on top of the heater, where they're easy to reach, and it holds about 13 kg of stones for a light splash of steam. The stainless steel body is compact at about 28 × 28 cm and 53.5 cm tall (11 × 11 × 21 in).

The 1.9 kW model suits rooms of 70–107 cu ft (2–3 m³), such as a one-person sauna or a small closet conversion. The 3.5 kW covers 70–175 cu ft (2–5 m³), a typical two-person room. Because it mounts low on the wall with a simple bracket, warmth reaches the lower benches too.

Both models are hard-wired at 240 V single-phase, per the listing: a 15 A breaker with 14 AWG copper for the 1.9 kW, and 20 A with 12 AWG for the 3.5 kW. That modest draw is often easier to add to a home panel than a larger heater. A licensed electrician, or an ESA-notified homeowner in Ontario, does the connection.

What you need to install it

  • Hard-wired to a dedicated double-pole breaker (15 A for 1.9 kW, 20 A for 3.5 kW); your electrician confirms breaker and wire size against the manual.
  • Mount it low on the wall so heat reaches the lower bench, keeping the manual's clearances.

Control: Built-in controls, so no separate control is needed.

Stones: Holds about 13 kg (29 lb) of 5–10 cm stones. Sold separately.

Wiring and permits

Electric sauna heaters are hard-wired to a dedicated breaker sized in the manual. Have a licensed electrician do the work and get the permit or inspection your province requires. In Ontario that means a Licensed Electrical Contractor, or you in your own home after filing an ESA notification; ask for the ESA Certificate of Acceptance, as your insurer may want it.

Harvia Vega Compact questions

Is 1.9 kW really enough?

For very small rooms, yes: Harvia rates it for 70–107 cu ft (2–3 m³). If your room is larger, or has glass, choose the 3.5 kW, which covers up to 175 cu ft.

Do I need a separate control?

No. The controls are built into the top of the heater.

What electrical work is needed?

A dedicated 240 V circuit: 15 A with 14 AWG copper for the 1.9 kW, or 20 A with 12 AWG for the 3.5 kW, per the listing. Your electrician confirms against Harvia's manual.
