About the Harvia M3
The Harvia M3 wood-burning sauna stove is a compact, classic heater with a glass door, a graphite-black body, plus a stainless air-flow spoiler that helps move heat into the room. Harvia rates its output at 16.5 kW, and its 30 kg of stones give you quick, lively steam when you ladle water on them. Watching the fire through the glass is half the fun.
Harvia rates the M3 for 6–13 m³ (212–459 cu ft), which covers most small and mid-size cabin, cottage and backyard saunas. The body is only about 39 cm wide and 43 cm deep (15.4 × 17 in), and 71 cm tall. If you'd like to heat the sauna without tracking wood inside, the M3 SL extends its firebox through the wall so you load it from a change room.
The M3 has a 115 mm flue outlet on the top or back (top only on the SL) and needs a chimney kit, sold separately. It can also be paired with a Harvia pipe-mounted water heater. Keep Harvia's clearances and set it on a non-combustible floor.

What you need to install it
- Needs a chimney kit matched to the 115 mm flue outlet, installed to the chimney maker's instructions.
- Keep the manual's clearances to walls, benches and ceiling, and set the stove on a non-combustible floor or base.
- Harvia lists 250 mm (9.8 in) at the sides, 300 mm (11.8 in) front and back, and 1,200 mm (47.2 in) to the ceiling from combustible materials.
- Through-wall versions need an opening in a non-combustible (masonry or similar) wall. Many home insurers ask for a WETT inspection, so book one before the first fire.

Harvia M3 questions
What size sauna does the M3 heat?
Harvia rates it for 6–13 m³ (212–459 cu ft). Add about 1.2 m³ per square metre of glass or bare masonry, and multiply by 1.5 for a log-walled room.
What's the difference between the M3 and M3 SL?
Same stove and rating; the SL's firebox extends through the wall so you load wood from the next room. It needs a non-combustible wall opening.
Can it heat water too?
Yes, with an optional Harvia pipe-mounted water heater that fits on the chimney.
How long can my firewood be?
Up to about 35 cm, per Harvia's manual. Split pieces 8–15 cm across burn best.
