About the Harvia Cilindro

The Harvia Cilindro wood-burning sauna stove brings the pillar look of Harvia's electric Cilindro to a real wood fire. A stainless outer shell holds 120 kg of stones around the firebox, so you get long, soft steam that carries on after the flames settle. Its glass door, set in a cast-iron frame, lets the glow into the room, and it can be hung to open either way.

The Cilindro 16 is rated for 6–13 m³ (212–459 cu ft) and the Cilindro 20 for 8–20 m³ (282–706 cu ft), with rated outputs of 16 and 17 kW. A ventilation duct at the back speeds up heating, and replaceable air-control plates protect the firebox and extend its life. It's a strong fit for cottages, cabins and backyard saunas across Canada.

Plan the chimney first: both models have a 115 mm flue outlet on the top or back and need a chimney kit matched to it, which is sold separately. Keep Harvia's clearances to combustible walls (about 150 mm at the sides and 200 mm at the back), and set it on a non-combustible floor.

What you need to install it

Needs a chimney kit matched to the 115 mm flue outlet, installed to the chimney maker's instructions.
Keep the manual's clearances to walls, benches and ceiling, and set the stove on a non-combustible floor or base.
Harvia lists 150 mm (5.9 in) at the sides, 200 mm (7.9 in) at the back, 500 mm (19.7 in) in front and 1,000 mm (39.4 in) to the ceiling from combustible materials.
Many home insurers ask for a WETT inspection, so book one before the first fire.

Harvia Cilindro questions

Cilindro 16 or 20?

The 16 suits rooms of 6–13 m³ (212–459 cu ft); the 20 suits 8–20 m³ (282–706 cu ft). Add about 1.2 m³ for each square metre of glass or bare masonry, and multiply by 1.5 for a log-walled sauna.

Is a chimney included?

No. The stove has a 115 mm flue outlet on the top or back, and you'll need a chimney kit sized to it, plus any adapter for a 6 in chimney system.

How long can the logs be?

Up to about 35 cm for the Cilindro 16 and 39 cm for the Cilindro 20, per Harvia's manuals. Split wood 8–15 cm across works best.

Can I use it in an outdoor barrel or cabin sauna?

Yes, that's what it's made for. Keep the listed clearances, protect the floor and follow the chimney maker's instructions for going through the roof or wall.
