Overview

About the Narvi NC

The Narvi NC wood-burning sauna stove suits modern and traditional saunas alike, with a clean-lined casing, a cast-iron glass door and wooden handles. The casing resists corrosion and comes in matte black, or stainless steel on the NC 16 and NC 20. Inside, a flue system in the stone compartment maximizes contact with the stones, and Narvi designed the firebox for efficient, cleaner burning.

Pick the size by room volume: the NC 16 for 8–16 m³ (282–565 cu ft) with 50 kg of stones, the NC 20 for 10–20 m³ (353–706 cu ft) with 60 kg, or the NC 24 for 10–24 m³ (353–847 cu ft) with 80 kg. The NC 20 VSV and VSO carry a 23 L water tank on the left or right side and hold 50 kg of stones.

Clearances are close for a wood stove: 150 mm (5.9 in) at the sides and back. A pipe for a rear chimney connection comes with the stove; a top connection needs a separate pipe. All models have a 119 mm flue outlet and adjustable feet, stand 74–82 cm tall and weigh 72–82 kg before stones. Stones and the chimney are sold separately.

What you need to install it

  • Needs a chimney kit matched to the 119 mm flue outlet, installed to the chimney maker's instructions. Many home insurers ask for a WETT inspection, so book one before the first fire.
  • Narvi lists 150 mm (5.9 in) at the sides and back, 500 mm (19.7 in) in front and 1,200–1,250 mm (47.2–49.2 in) above, depending on model.
  • On a wooden or tiled floor, or over in-floor heating, Narvi calls for its installation base plus a metal floor plate reaching 400 mm (15.7 in) in front of the stove.
  • Do the first firing outdoors on a non-combustible surface, as Narvi's manual directs: it burns off protective coatings and sets the paint. Don't make steam that first time.

Stones: Takes 50 kg (NC 16 and NC 20 VS), 60 kg (NC 20) or 80 kg (NC 24) of 10–15 cm stones. Sold separately.

Narvi NC questions

Black or stainless: what's the difference?

Only the finish. The NC 16 and NC 20 come in matte black or stainless steel, with the same size, stone load and room rating. The NC 24 and the water-tank NC 20 versions come in black.

Can the chimney connect on top?

Yes. The stove comes with a pipe for a rear connection. For a top connection you'll need a separate connection pipe; Narvi's manual calls for a Narvi connective flue or smoke flue.

How do I choose between the NC 16, 20 and 24?

Go by room volume: NC 16 for 8–16 m³ (282–565 cu ft), NC 20 for 10–20 m³ (353–706 cu ft) and NC 24 for 10–24 m³ (353–847 cu ft). Narvi suggests sizing up slightly rather than running a stove at its limit, and adding volume for log walls or bare brick, glass or concrete.

Is it certified for use in Canada?

Our supplier lists it as complying with European CE marking requirements, not a Canadian (CSA or ULC) listing, so check with your insurer and WETT inspector before you buy.
